What is "totheflixs.com" exactly?
ToTheFlixs.com is unlike other movie sites you have come across. For starters, there are no film critics on this site...at all. The reviews written here are done by only one person: me.
Who is "me"?
I am the owner and creator of this site. I go by the pseudonym "Razor" when I post my reviews. Originally, I designed this site as a side project during one of my web development classes while studying for my Bachelors of Science in Information Technology back in 2010. Back then, the movies I reviewed were more or less releases that were overlooked or went straight to home release. Originally, I never intended to do anything with the site and put it aside while I finished going for my degree. After officially launching the site in 2015, I find myself rediscovering the potential it holds. My main goal is to remind people that it is not just film critics that get to decide whether a movie is ultimately good or bad; it is the audience watching the film that does. Even though movies are a medium of art, they are also meant to be enjoyed, whether to have a good time with friends and family or to temporarily escape from our daily agendas.
Who is this site for?
I started this site for movie lovers and moviegoers such as myself who want to know whether a movie is good or bad without the "perspective" of film critics. Much like the world, I see movies through my own point of view. A majority of today's film critics have become hard to please and care more about a film's depth, scope and presentation. While I agree those factors are important in creating a film, that does not necessarily mean a movie is terrible if it lacks any of these qualities nor does it require these factors to be successful. I mainly focus on my overall enjoyment of the film and how much of a lasting impression it leaves on me afterwards regardless of what type of film it is, serious or not. Also, unlike other sites, I only review movies I have an interest in seeing, and on some occasions I will review films that people tend to overlook, such as foreign films or limited/one-day only releases. If there is a movie I know for certain will be bad, chances are I will not bother with it.
What kind of review system does this site use?
None. On some sites, you will see movies are rated based on a percentage of good and bad reviews, while others will rate them on a scale from one to four; one being low and four being the highest. This site does not use any of these methods to review films. Simply put, every review on this site will state whether a movie is ultimately good or bad. Period.
Does this site review home releases?
I try to make an effort to review movies that are released theatrically. The experience is never the same watching it at home than it is in a movie theater. However, due to my work schedule, I may not have the opportunity to see and review every film that is released every week (I am only one guy!). In some cases, if I miss the opening weekend for a particular film, I will review it once it is available on home release in which I will do a "Quickie" review.
What is a "quickie" review?
A "Quickie" review is when I review a film upon home release if I did not have the opportunity to see it in theaters. These reviews do not have a designated date of when they will go up on the site. It will vary depending on time and availability.
Why are the reviews so short?
Do you honestly want to spend 20 minutes reading through paragraph after paragraph on a movie just to get to the point as to whether it is ultimately good or bad only to get bored halfway through? These aren't essays I'm writing; which is one of the peeves I have about movie critics who write extensive and long reviews. As the reader, we're looking to see WHY we should go see this movie; that's why I keep my reviews short and straight to the point.
Can I buy tickets here?
TotheFlixs.com does not sell tickets. However, ads and a link is provided to purchase tickets from Fandango.com.
What is up with the ads?
Morgan Webb said it best: "Advertising is how you pay for things without actually paying for them." I am not here to sell you a product you don't need or try to spam you with countless pages full of ads. The sole purpose of the ads seen on this site is only meant to help pay the bills and nothing more. You do not have to click on any of ads on my site but doing so definitely helps me out a lot and is deeply appreciated!
Anything else?
The site is constantly changing; more will be added in the future. Keep an eye out for new stuff to come!
