Aquaman
-quickie review, 4/10/19

the rising sea

DC comics has finally entered their renaissance era after their slight misstep with 2017's Justice League. Despite the troubled history to the film's production, there wasn't much that could be done to save it which left fan expectations unmet. However, after the spectacular footing Wonder Woman laid down, DC comics is now focusing on more solo-oriented adventures than an amalgamation of several superheroes to rush a tie-in in order to play catch up with Marvel. Looks like they've learned their lesson as Aquaman is a great stand-alone film, giving the amphibian hero a gigantic introduction into his underwater world and a huge boost to DC's own cinematic universe. Director James Wan continues to prove his mettle he can handle big-budget blockbusters without sacrificing decent character development too, but more than anything giving the film the light-hearted comic-book touch; forgoing the moody, dark tone from earlier entries. From it's stunning visuals, superb sequences and a charismatic performance by Jason Momoa, Aquaman has now secured DC's one failing cinematic universe and if they continue to play their cards right, the future looks incredibly optimistic. Highly recommended
