J.J. Abrams will change backstory of Rey's parentage for Episode 9
We're still a long way before Star Wars: Episode 9 hits theaters at the end of this year and while we've yet to know any details about the plot besides that it'll close out the Skywalker saga, we still don't even know the final name of the title or haven't even gotten a teaser trailer yet. What we have gotten in terms of the story is that there will be a slight change in regards to Rey's backstory that could quite literally alter the main plot of the film. Of all the films in the series, The Last Jedi was the most divisive among fans in regards to addressing the speculation of Rey's family and who her real parents are. Many pointed in the direction that she could've been Han and Leia's daughter (although that theory never panned out) while other's believe she and Kylo Ren could be related (a more plausible possibility).
(Spoiler alert!) However, that all changed when it was revealed that Rey's parents were really nobodies, so much so that the film didn't even bother to give them faces; just blurry silhouettes to convey their insignificance. Many fans cried foul believing it could have worked to a big reveal over the mystery of who her parents were but instead felt as if they got the finger from the filmmakers. This oversight will be retconned in the next episode when J.J. Abrams re-assumes his role as director as he has an idea to address Rey's ambiguous lineage, although it's not clear in what way and he's not giving any hints whatsoever; the only thing that was promised is that it will be unexpected. Maybe she's Luke's daughter? Just throwing it out there!
