Accept the Mission

Picture
Coach must have been full
For me, the first Mission Impossible will always be my favorite and the best one in my opinion (that jump and hang scene is a classic.) The sequels that have followed afterwards just simply didn't excite me the same way as the first one did; the last one Ghost Protocol didn't win me over as I had hoped for. So you can understand why I wasn't in that much of the hurry to see Rogue Nation, the latest in the franchise. But given that the director this time around was the same one who directed Jack Reacher, another Tom Cruise driven franchise which I enjoyed immensely, I thought I'd give the film a sporting chance. This time around we find Ethan (Tom Cruise) and the IMF team going up against the ominous Syndicate organization, which in the franchise's canon
storyline is the shady group the team has been combating for all these years and has stayed hidden up until now. Right off the bat, Ethan discovers that the Syndicate is not only real but its' presence is practically global, rivaling that of the IMF. As Ethan prepares to go head to head with their most profusely dangerous foe yet, he uncovers that their existence from the world isn't the only secret that they're hiding or willing to kill for. To reiterate what I said earlier, it's hard to recapture the excitement and fun from the first film; something the later entries have yet to accomplish and Rogue Nation is no different. That being said, this was definitely better than the last entry. Tom Cruise does what he does best, and the same goes for everyone else. The biggest draw (and highlight) this time around are the stunts; from the fight in the opera house to the chase scene in Morocco, the action was pretty solid. In the end, the first Mission Impossible is still my favorite but in the least I can say that Rogue Nation is now my second favorite. This mission, should you choose to accept it, comes recommended from yours truly. This review will self-destruct in 5 seconds.
