ralph breaks the internet terrific and worthy sequel
Disney really knows how to make people wait when it comes to sequels. Six years after the first Wreck-It Ralph came out, no one knew for sure whether Disney was going to pass on giving the bad guy with a heart a continuation of his gaming exploits. Well, better late than never. As the title suggests, Ralph (John C. Reily) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) take their new journey onto the Internet where they come across just about everything you can possibly imagine from those annoying pop-up ads, hilarious memes, and even the dark web. Here the two seek out a part for Vanellope's game in hopes of getting it fixed after an accident. Much like its' predecessor, Ralph Breaks The Internet touches on existential themes, going deeper into the mythos as well as the importance of friendship and knowing when to let go. The actors once again top themselves in their voice work thanks to a tight script that's both self-aware of the material and embraces it. From the references to Disney's own properties, the tribulations of online gaming and the negative side of social media, the film handles all these subjects with proper care. Even though it was a long overdue, Ralph Breaks The Internet is a terrific and colorful sequel, and a rare one that will please both kids and adults.
