This wave crashes
It amazes me how studios churn out these young-adult film adaptations by the dozens and throw a ridiculously high budget cost on them; I just wished they placed as much importance on the writing and story as well. If The Hunger Games has proven us anything, is that attention to characterization and pacing are just as important as big action set pieces and visual effects; it's just too bad The 5th Wave didn't follow the same example. Cassie (Chloë Grace Moretz), a typical high-schooler whose world is literally thrown into chaos when the Earth comes under invasion by aliens known as the Others, a group that launches four waves of attacks onto the planet. After the fourth wave, a majority of the human population has been decimated and leaving only the

remaining survivors, which consists of Cassie and her younger brother to fend for themselves against the Others, who can adapt their appearance and likeliness as humans, as they await the pending 5th wave attack. I'll be blunt, I wanted to give The 5th Wave the benefit of the doubt as far as young-adult adaptation film trend goes but sadly this latest CGI turd pretty much confirmed what I had already suspected. The film squanders the potential of its' talented cast, its' visual style and any hopes of a follow-up to the story because it seemed as though The 5th Wave was meant to be a trilogy but that seems unlikely now. This genre as a whole has been heading downhill as of late what with the latest Divergent film and the weak closer from Mockingjay: Part 2; The 5th Wave might as well be the final nail on this soon to be buried coffin.
